Entry 4: If I Was Your Best Friend

 December 3, 2011 

Sitting on my mom’s back porch listening to the wind blow, the birds sing, and the bugs buzzing close to my ear LOL, I begin to think about how I would like this semester to go and how I couldn't wait to tell the girls all about my break and catch up. We only had a couple of weeks before we were going to be reunited again. The break went by so fast but not fast enough. Time goes by, the time is now here to move into our dorm. 

GROUP TEXT:

JJ,Zora, and Brooklyn : Hey y'all!!! Break flew by ! I am now here preparing to pack all this stuff to my new dorm. When you ladies are going to get here because although we have been in touch all break, now we get to chat over food ! Plus I have to update yall on my new boo, the one I met in the library by the food court right before the semester ended. Just in case y'all forgot. I am excited to see yall! Let's knock this semester out! One semester closer to graduation. Don't forget to let me know when you get here. Love yall besties!

Zora: Oooo I think I know who you're talking about!

JJ: I need a refresher on him lol. However, I am here and already unpacked and settled, so I am definitely ready for food so let me know what time.

Brooklyn: O yes I remember him his name was Miguel right?

Me: Yelp you right Brooklyn, JJ I got you tonight sis, Zora that name ring a bell? Lets meet tonight at 7p at BigBoy Cafe.

*Everyone confirms for 7pm”

Now that I am all packed in my dorm and I have set everything up, I call Miguel. Mind you we have not seen each other since he last saw me in the library but have been talking all break.

Miguel: “Hey baby girl, are you here yet? If so, I want to see you.

Me: (Blushing and smiling on the other end) “Hey babe. Yes I am here, that's why I called you foreal to see where you were at.”

Miguel: I am at the student center for the student event.

Me: Okay, well I don”t want to show up late but if you want to come to my dorm afterwards I would love to see you until it's time for me to go see my girls at 7.

Miguel: Say less, I am on my way now.

Me: Aww yay okay see you soon.

*Phone disconnects*

Well that was not what I was expecting. I just knew I was going to have at least an hour to gather myself and get dolled up for him. So I thought. I hurried up and did a quick facial since I was sweating and put on his favorite color royal blue dress. 

*Phone rings * It is Miguel

Me: Hey hey!  

Miguel: Guess what! I am downstairs!

Me: Yay, Ok I am coming.

We get to the room and I turn on some music on low. 

Music flows and the conversation begins. While he is sitting there looking at me I am just in a daze. Butterflies flowing in my stomach as he continues to talk about how he missed me over the break and glad he is now here in my presence. He began to ask me questions like, “Now that we have had a break and we really met at the end of the semester, we kept in  touch and now we are here.Where do you see this going? How do I make you feel? Do you even like me?”

I chuckled, “boy you know I like you quit playing with me.”

During the break he never came on to me sexually in any form. It was nothing but conversation and good energy. It seemed like he cared so much about me. He was consistent in communication, he never made me feel like I was getting on his nerves, the list goes on.

He said, “I just had to ask to make sure I was not in my feelings alone.”

I was sitting there melting inside even more just the thought about him liking him just as much as I liked him. In my eyes he was already my best friend outside of my girls of course. We began to talk about how busy our schedules were going to be for the semester and how I was going to start working full time along with school. 

He said don't worry I will make sure while working I can bring you lunch and make sure you are good.I could not believe my ears, like is this man real?

 It is now 6:30p and hours have gone by and I could have sat there with him until we talked ourselves to sleep. I had to text the girls and let them know I am going to have a rain check until tomorrow. That way you ladies can finish organizing your things too. Everyone was in agreement to rain check. So I told Miguel we rescheduled for tomorrow and if he wants he can stay until he is ready to go. He was all for it. We began to lay there and watch movies and I began to hear the song “If I was your best friend, I WANT YOU AROUND ALL THE TIME, I’ll be your best friend if you promise you will be mine”. Miguel goes you are my best friend with a smirk. I could not even say anything at this point. I just snuggled up closer to him. I ended up falling asleep in the middle of the movie of course. 

*Time goes by it is now time for the dinner with the girls*

We sat there eating and I began to tell them more about Miguel and I couldn't let the smile go. I genuinely liked everything about him and it was showing. We talked about how our schedules were going to go for the semester and how we hoped the parties were going to hit differently like Miguel has been this semester lol. My phone suddenly rings and it was Miguel, I am sitting here thinking he knows I am with my girls so why is he calling me? I picked it up. He sounded like he was crying hysterically. 

Me:”Babe, what's wrong??”

Him: “ Something I forgot to mention, I don't even know how but please forgive me. But my mom has been battling cancer and now that she is gone, after the funeral, I have to withdraw and move with my family to Alabama. I did not think it would happen this fast but here I am.”

As he is talking my smile is turning and tears are flowing can't even get words out of my mouth.

Me: Babe I am so sorry I really don't even know what to say besides I will be by your side whenever you need me and here to support you.

Him: I am sorry this had to go this way, I promise I will never forget you and I will be by before I leave.

Me: Okay babe. I will be praying for you and your family. *hangs up*

Zora says what's wrong sis? Everything okay? 

Me: Yall, his mom just passed and now he has to move to Alabama and withdraw from school. I know it's kind of selfish of me but I truly liked him and I do not want him to leave. I hate to do this to yall but I have to go meet him before he leaves.

Miguel comes to my dorm, kisses me and says I will forever love you and honor you. SO sorry this had to end this way but I have to go and my family I am going with are very strict so I don't know when you will hear back from me. Again I am so sorry. *He walks away to get in the car with his family.* 

I was just sitting there devastated as soon as I found my best friend. In a flash life happens to where we can not even communicate how we want nonetheless see each other anymore.

From that day forward he crossed my mind everyday. Till this day I never heard from Mr. Miguel again. I guess he wasn’t my best friend after all.
